United States Army Air Force Consolidated B-24 Liberator, 42-52003, was being ferried from RAF Burtonwood, near Warrington to Hardwick in Norfolk.
There were two crew onboard, 2nd Lt C. Houpt was piloting the aircraft and the engineer Sgt J. Najvar.
Shortly after take off the engineer reported that the aircraft flew too low following its take-off from Burtonwood, he said the aircraft only began to climb shortly before it impacted the ground, the visibility was very limited at the time of the crash.
Both aircrew survived the crash.
Little remains of the aircraft except some wing sections, undercarriage legs and a number of the engines.
